Dakaita was a Mass Center of Gokhla Parish. From 1950, Priests from Gokhla used to visit this area. Rev. Fr. Alexander Bombera TOR was the first resident priest of Dakaita in 1960. In 1966, when Rev. Fr. Theodore Baa TOR was in Dakaita, he extended evangalization to an Oraon village named Saurichakla. The first Diocesan Priest to be in Dakaita was Rev. Fr. Jacob Kollamparampill. The new Parish church in Dakaita was constructed by late Rev. Fr. Thomas Kozhimala, who later became the bishop of Bhagalpur. The Church was blessed on October 28, 1977. Rev. Fr. Peter Goveas, who was also a parish priest here, was appointed as Bishop of Bettiah recently. Dakaita has many sub-stations. One of the substations, Govindpur, is now a Parish. Jirli, another substation is raised to the status of a parish with a resident Parish Priest. There are two more major Mass Centers in Dakaita Parish. Lalmatia Colliery of Rajmahal Hills, the biggest open coal mines in Asia, is in and around Dakaita Mission. |
