The mission property at Castair’s Town was originally known as the Paikpara Raj House. It was bought by Rev. Fr. Alexander Bombera TOR in 1967, and thereafter renovated. Fr. Abraham Kandanthott was appointed the first resident priest in 1968. In 1969, The Late Bishop Urban transferred officially the ownership of the land to TORs. In 1969, Rev. Fr. Aloysius Kattady TOR moved to Deoghar to begin St. Francis English Medium School. Rev. Fr. Aloysius Kattady was the first principal and parish priest. Deoghar had no Church but a class room was used for Mass on Sundays. In 1973, they also acquired some land in ‘Nandan Pahar’ for a Catholic cemetery. Now it is used for Deoghar and Jasidih Parishes. |
