Prior to Deoghar and later Jasidih, priest from Madhupur of Dumka diocese used to visit Khirwatari village and baptized a few families. When Madhupur stopped visiting this area on account of distance and poor roads, the Christians joined Deoghar Parish which was close to Khirwatari. When Jasidih Parish was separated from Deoghar, Khirwatari came under Jasidih. Late Rev. Fr. Mathew Chennatt acquired 5 acres of land at Khirwatari along Deoghar- Giridih main road. He made a small house for a priest to stay and made compound walls. In 2002, Khirwatari was raised to a Parish. Recently FIH Sisters joined to help out in the Parish. There are 37 Christian families. Recently, Bishop Kurien Valiakandathil has started an English Medium School in this parish. |
