Jhajha being a Railway Colony, there were many Europeans and Anglo-Indians working at the railhead at Jhajha. Jesuits from Patna used to visit them in 1930. When Jesuits were going around Chakai, a Santhal area, they liked the place, since they did not have a place to stay they selected Jhajha as their headquarters. Jesuits visited Mariampahari and Chakai from Jhajha. When Rev. Fr. D.T. Rice was assistant priest in Chakai, he was looking for a plot to build a church in Jhajha. Finally he succeeded to buy the land by the side of the European Christian Cemetery and built a church and a residence. Jhajha was a place for weekend stay. There was a committee of Europeans and Anglo-Indians for the management of the cemetery. A care-taker was appointed from England, who had been paid 2 pounds per month as remuneration. The Cemetery was surrounded by a boundary wall with a dividing wall right at the middle. One side of the dividing wall was of Protestants and the other side was of Catholics. The Indians were not allowed to be buried in this cemetery.

In 1970, Chakai, Mariampahari and Jhajha, the parishes of the then Patna Diocese, were annexed to Bhagalpur diocese. The Priest appointed from Bhagalpur was not then acceptable to the forty odd Anglo Indian families. When an Anglo Indian died, they had to call the Indian Priest for the burial. That was the first time they met their Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Thomas Vetticad. He was the first diocesan priest to be stationed at Jhajha. Today all the Anglo Indians in Jhajha have migrated to Australia. The number of tribal Christians have increased. The Holy Mass is offered either in Hindi or in Santali. Parish has an English Medium School, 2 study home and one convent.
