In Kusumghati, ten kaththa of land was given to Late Rev. Fr. Thomas Vetticad in 1974 as a token of gratitude for the great help Purna Mahali received. 16 Bighas of land had been mortgaged by his father to the money lenders. He got the total land released through the help of Late Rev. Fr. Thomas Vettikad. He was so grateful for all the blessings he received, that he wanted the mission to build a prayer house in his own land. For this purpose he donated ten Kaththa Land next to his house along the road. The then Parish Priest, Late Rev. Fr. Thomas Vetticad, built a small church and began regular prayer meetings and occasionally Sunday Mass. When the late Rev. Fr. Thomas Kurungatt was the Parish Priest of Baromasia, he acquired a plot land adjacent to the ten kaththa and started a Primary School. On June 30, 2012 Kusumghati was declared a parish and handed over to the Missionaries of Faith, a Religious Congregation of Men, for the overall development of the parish. Rev. Fr. Joseph Sodimala was the first parish priest appointed in 2012. Rev. Fr. Joseph V. has changed the face of Kusumghati. Today there are above 500 Christians in the Parish. There are two priests in the parish and one of them is the Headmaster of the High School. A bigger Church and the presbytery were constructed. The priests have a spacious residence. The Missionaries of Faith have handed over the parish to the diocese in 2018. Rev. Fr. Siby Thomas is appointed as the first diocesan parish priest. Rev. Fr. Sumit Hembrom remained as the first diocesan Head Master for a month in May 2018. He is succeeded by Rev. Fr. Manoj Kumar. |
