Lilathary was a mass centre of Baromasia Parish where Holy Mass was celebrated regularly on every Sunday by Priests from Baromasia Mission since 1960. In 1962, Fr. Abraham Kadanthot as the headmaster of St. Joseph’s School, Baromasia constructed a village chapel in Lilathary to facilitate pastoral work in and around Lilathary, Ratanpur and Kusumghati villages.

It was when late Fr. Thomas Kurungatt was the Parish Priest of Baromasia, Parish Council numbers proposed to make Lilathary as a separate Parish. But as there was not sufficient land available in Lilathary for a Parish the people of Ratanpur proposed to have the Parish in Ratanpur, a village close to Lilathary where enough land was available. So the decision was taken by the people to abandon 40 years old Lilathary substation and create a new parish in Ratanpur.

So Ratanpur was raised to a new parish in 2004 and Late Fr. Thomas Kurungatt was appointed as its first parish priest. The present Latona and Asanbona parishes were sub-stations of Ratanpur Parish.
