As Fr. Dan Rice, SJ left Mariampahari in 1971, he started to work in Sokho. The people of Mariampahari wept as their dear pastor left for Sokho. Many Santhals also accompanied him to Sokho village. Fr. Daniel Thomas Rice, SJ had acquired several plots of land in Sokho village. He constructed a mud house to live in and gave some land to the people who had followed him. He also began a hermit’s life in Sokho. Encouraged by his life, Nazareth Sisters from Mokama with a few novices came to Sokho in 1975. Fr. Dan Rice vacated this place when Sokho was transferred to Bhagalpur Diocese in 1984. Fr. Joseph Mulloor became the first diocesan priest to reside at Sokho and the presbytery was built by Rev. Fr. Joseph Mulloor in 1989. |
