Sundermor was originally a sub-station of Godda. Fr. Ernest SJ, built the first ‘pucca’ church probably in 1945. In 1972, the first diocesan Parish Priest appointed in Sundermore was Fr. Thomas Cheradil who died in a bike accident on the day of his appointment. Fr. Alexander Pichakapally succeeded Late Fr. Thomas Cheredil. Fr. Alexander built a well- proportioned health center and dedicated it to Fr. Thomas Cheradil. On the walls of the clinic, one can read “Rev. Fr. Thomas Cheradil Memorial Clinic”. Sundermor has a bridge over the river which forced the missionaries to carry their bicycle many years on their heads or relax in the jungle till the waters subsided to cross over. Through the hard labour of the diocesan priests Sundermor grew up so fast as to to divide create more parishes. Subsiquently Sundermor mission was divided to create Manikbathan and sub divided to create Poro and Tilabad parishes. As per the need of the time, the presbytery and the well-designed and spacious church was built by Fr. Mathew Kaithara and was blessed by the then Bishop Thomas Kozhimala. Sisters of Franciscan Clarist Congregation whole heartedly render their service in this area being in the school, health center and other pastrol activities.
