An English Medium School at Banka was established in 1998 by Bp. Thomas Kozhimala, the then Bishop of Bhagalpur. He appointed late Rev. Fr. Joseph Thanniparampil as the First Principal. There were no Catholics in Banka at that time. Parish ministry began in the year 2000. Rev. Fr. Thomas N.M, the then Principal built a magnificent church and dedicated it to St. Joseph in 2010. However, the most solemn feast celebrated in this parish is that of St. Jude, the patron of the impossible. Banka had a Mass center at Nipania which was later separated as a parish. Banka, being the Headquarter of the district, has now many Catholics who are mostly migrants. Fr. Bravinth Sherif is the present Parish Priest and Principal at Banka. |
