Rev. Fr. E. De Muelder, SJ, was the pioneer in evangelization in Giridih Region. Australian Jesuits from Hazaribag continued the pastoral work in Giridih area which was initiated by Rev. Fr. E. De Muelder, SJ. In 1966, Sr. Patricia CSST, constructed a large Chapel which was attached to the convent and school. The working people of the offices and colliery were attending Mass on Sundays. Eventually, Jesuits bought a piece of land where the present parish church exists. The available records show that there were three resident Parish Priests between 1965 and 1970. Fr. Foster S.J. (1965-1968); Rev. Fr. Donally SJ (1968); Rev. Fr. Jackson (1968-1970). From 1970, priests from Bhagalpur were posted there and the parish Mass was celebrated in the Carmel school Chapel. Giridih parish was transferred to Bhagalpur Diocese in 1970. Late Rev. Fr. Scaria Kollerette was the first resident diocesan priest in Giridih. The church of Christ the King and presbytery were built by Rev. Fr. Mathew Chennatt in 1988 and blessed by Late Bishop George Saupin on May 1, 1988. |
