The pioneer missionaries from Patna used to visit this area all the way up to Charakapathar. But nowhere have they mentioned the place Kaniket. The first one who heard of Kaniketh was Rev. Fr. James Alumkal, the then Parish Priest of Harimohra. He used to visit Kaniket, bought a piece of land and started a school. In 2003, He began to reside at Kaniket and on 18th June 2004, SMI sisters started their service in the mission. The parish began with only two catholic families. A decade later, Kaniket has above 500 Catholics, about 100 families in 28 villages. St. Joseph’s School, Kaniket was established in 2001. The school has classes from classes KG to VIII.
