In 1930, the Jesuits from Poreyahat wanted to build a sub-station at Karatanr Hariari, where they had already a village chapel and a school. In 1940, the Jesuits handed over the area to the Franciscans who were to continue their work. From 1964-1969, the diocesan brothers in regency were put in-charge. Due to the non-availability of land at Hariari, the school was shifted to the diocese acquired land in Katibari village. Since then the center of Christianity around Hariari was shifted to Katibari village where the Mission is established. Rev. Fr. Benvenut TOR was the first parish priest and he occupied the present mission in 1970. The friary was built in 1973. The church was blessed on April 27, 1977 and the school is managed by the TORs. The hostel and the health center are managed by the Sisters of the Congregation of Jesus-Patna. |
