Latona was formed as a sub-station of Baromasia Parish in 1993 when late Fr. Thomas Kurungatt was the Parish Priest in Baromasia. In the year 1994, Fr. Thomas Kurungatt bought a large plot of land for Latona Mission for the expansion of Pastoral work. A Balwadi was established in the same year with the view to give due importance to education ministry. As Ratanpur was contrived a parish, Latona became a part of it. When late Rev. Fr. Thomas Kurungatt became the Parish priest of Ratanpur, two of the sisters from Ratanpur were regularly visiting Latona and occasionally staying there. The Balwadi that began in Latona is a high school today. When MF fathers took over the school in Latona, the sisters were conceded to their base in Ratanpur. On May 1, 2011, Latona was heightened to a Parish and handed it over to the MF Fathers. A couple of years later in 2014, they withdrew from their service. Rev. Fr. Vincent Murmu a Diocesan Priest was appointed there in as the parish priest. There are 250 Catholics families in this parish. |
