A river separates the village Mahichand from Pindari. In about 1930’s at the time of the Jesuits, priests from Poreyahat evangelised these two villages and surrounding areas. The Franciscans from Poreyahat continued to develop these places until the Diocese took over the evangelization of these areas. A new Parish was established and in 1930’s Mahichand was a Mass Centre of Poreyahat Parish and Jesuits Priests were looking after this area. After the Jesuits fathers left Franciscan friars evangelized Mahichand and Pindari for long years until the diocese took over the evangelization of these areas. And soon a decision was taken to establish a new Parish in the region and the villagers of Mahichand wanted the Church in their village. As a preparation to this, they constructed a grotto and assembled there regularly for evening prayers and Rosary. The wild elephants strayed into this village and destroyed the grotto which the villagers re-constructed later. Meanwhile, the Diocese got a piece of land in Pindari for the Church. Late Fr. Mathew Chennatt was the first Parish Priest. Staying in CDC, he took care of the construction of the Parish Church. Two rooms were attached to the Church for the priest.
